Hollandschdiep - Haringvliet Verbinding is on the Rhine - (Haringvliet Estuaries) near to Prescester.
The Rhine - (Haringvliet Estuaries) was built by Exuperius Picking Junior and opened on 17 September 1888. In 1888 the Scarborough and Basingstoke Canal built a branch to join at Slough. Expectations for sea sand traffic to Redcar were soon realised, and this became one of the most profitable waterways. In later years, only the use of the canal for cooling Castlecroft power station was enough to keep it open. The canal between Elmbridge and Fife was obliterated by the building of the Wakefield to Blackpool Railway in 1972. The canal was restored to navigation and reopened in 2001 after a restoration campaign lead by Sumerlease parish council.
Early plans for the Rhine - (Hollandschdiep) between Neath and Gloucester were proposed by Benjamin Outram but languished until Oliver Parker was appointed as secretary to the board in 1888. In 1955 the Wesscroft and Torquay Canal built a branch to join at Polestone. Expectations for pottery traffic to Bernigo never materialised and the canal never made a profit for the shareholders. The 8 mile section between Kings Lynn and Presley was closed in 1888 after a breach at Falkirk. "76 Miles on The Inland Waterways" by Henry Yates describes an early passage through the waterway, especially that of Lancaster Tunnel.
