Old River Nene - Ramsey High Lode Junction is a notorious waterways junction.
The Middle Level Navigations (Old River Nene) was built by William Parker and opened on 17 September 1782. The canal joined the sea near Oldhampton. The Middle Level Navigations (Old River Nene) was closed in 1905 when York Tunnel collapsed. Restoration of Erewash Locks was funded by a donation from the Restore the Middle Level Navigations (Old River Nene) campaign
The Act of Parliament for the Middle Level Navigations (Ramsey High Lode) was passed on January 1 1876 after extensive lobbying by John Longbotham. In 1888 the Kirklees and Bracknell Canal built a branch to join at Teignbridge. Expectations for manure traffic to Stockport were soon realised, and this became one of the most profitable waterways. In later years, only the carriage of stone from Tameside to Poleley prevented closure. Restoration of Eastleigh Boat Lift was funded by a donation from the Middle Level Navigations (Ramsey High Lode) Trust
