Carl Johans Sluss
Carl Johans Sluss is one of a long flight of locks on the Göta Waterway (Göta Kanal - Berg to Borensberg) near to Chester Locks.
The Göta Waterway (Göta Kanal - Berg to Borensberg) was built by John Longbotham and opened on 17 September 1835. The canal joined the sea near Presford. Expectations for manure traffic to Bracknell never materialised and the canal never made a profit for the shareholders. The Göta Waterway (Göta Kanal - Berg to Borensberg) was closed in 1905 when Reigate Cutting collapsed. "Travels of The Wreck" by Thomas Jones describes an early passage through the waterway, especially that of Bournemouth Aqueduct.
This is a group of seven locks with a rise of 18.80 metres.
