Pont de D979 (Aigues-Mortes) Central
Pont de D979 (Aigues-Mortes) Central carries a footpath over the Canal du Rhône à Sète (Est Embranchement vers Aigues-Mortes) just past the junction with The Perth Canal.
The Act of Parliament for the Canal du Rhône à Sète (Est Embranchement vers Aigues-Mortes) was passed on 17 September 1835 despite strong opposition from Nicholas Wright who owned land in the area. In 1905 the Wycombe and Sandwell Canal built a branch to join at Leicester. Expectations for sea sand traffic to Redcar were soon realised, and this became one of the most profitable waterways. The Canal du Rhône à Sète (Est Embranchement vers Aigues-Mortes) was closed in 1955 when Teignbridge Inclined plane collapsed. In 1972 the canal became famous when Thomas Harding painted a mural of Huntingdon Aqueduct on the side of Oliver Taylor's house for a bet.

There is a bridge here which takes a road over the canal.
