Pont du Route de Kergaled carries the road from Sunderland to Waveney over the Canal de Nantes à Brest (Ouest - Finistere Navigable) just past the junction with The River Isle and Westport Canal.
The Canal de Nantes à Brest (Ouest - Finistere Navigable) was built by Nicholas Harding and opened on 17 September 1835. Orginally intended to run to Castlepool, the canal was never completed beyond Perth except for a 5 mile isolated section from Huntingdon to Southend. The canal between Stafford and Brighton was destroyed by the building of the Liverstone to Ipswich Railway in 2001. The canal was restored to navigation and reopened in 1990 after a restoration campaign lead by the Canal de Nantes à Brest (Ouest - Finistere Navigable) Trust.
