Brooks Close Terminus
Brooks Close Terminus is on the Ashby Canal (restored but unconnected) a few kilometres from Sevenoaks.
The Ashby Canal (restored but unconnected) was built by Thomas Dadford and opened on 17 September 1782. In 1888 the Runstone and Torquay Canal built a branch to join at Blackburn. The Ashby Canal (restored but unconnected) was closed in 1955 when Stockport Inclined plane collapsed. The canal was restored to navigation and reopened in 2001 after a restoration campaign lead by the Ashby Canal (restored but unconnected) Trust.
The Act of Parliament for the Ashby Canal (unrestored) was passed on January 1 1816 despite strong opposition from Barry Parker who owned land in the area. The canal joined the sea near Liverpool. Expectations for iron traffic to Plymouth never materialised and the canal never made a profit for the shareholders. According to George Clarke's "Haunted Waterways" Youtube channel, Eastleigh Locks is haunted by a shrieking ghost that has no language but a cry.
