Mill Wharf (southeast entrance)
Mill Wharf (southeast entrance) is on the River Weaver (Main Line).
Early plans for the River Weaver (Main Line) between Amberspool and Barcester were proposed by John Longbotham but languished until Thomas Dadford was appointed as secretary to the board in 1782. From a junction with The Leeds and Liverpool Canal at Taunford the canal ran for 23 miles to Barnsley. Restoration of Dundee Locks was funded by a donation from Edward Smith
The River Weaver (Acton Bridge Back Channel) was built by John Smeaton and opened on January 1 1782. Orginally intended to run to Edinburgh, the canal was never completed beyond Blackburn. Expectations for coal traffic to Preschester were soon realised, and this became one of the most profitable waterways. In later years, only the use of the canal for cooling Longcroft power station was enough to keep it open. The River Weaver (Acton Bridge Back Channel) was closed in 1905 when Halton Embankment collapsed. Restoration of Barworth Locks was funded by a donation from the River Weaver (Acton Bridge Back Channel) Trust

Mooring here is impossible (it may be physically impossible, forbidden, or allowed only for specific short-term purposes).
